Once again this year the NWG will have a booth at the
Nebraska State Fair. Members are encouraged to come help man the booth. In
addition to promoting the Guild and your own writing you can also sell your own
books while in the booth.

The fair requires that there be at least one person in the
booth at all times (from 9AM to 9PM except Labor Day which is 9AM to 7PM).

The State Fair committee will have a person present at all times. We
also can accommodate two authors at a time in the booth. We offer time slots of at least two hours each on a first come first served basis, for your first time
slot. Multiple slots are welcomed but we want as many authors as want to be
included, so second slots may be shifted to suit both the booth and author so
that everyone has a chance.

To help you find your niche at the fair here are some
special days that may fit your books:
Monday, 8-25, Tuesday 8-26, and Thursday
8-28 are “school days” with loads of kids, teachers and parents coming through
the building.
Wednesday 8-27 is Older Nebraskans Day.
Tuesday is $2 ticket day for all fair goers.

There are still a few volunteer spaces left. To reserve a spot contact me at poetrygrandma@yahoo.com or find my phone number in this year’s Bulletin ne state fair 2014 logo

bio picture annetteBy now, over a year into my post as NWG secretary, you’ve all had contact with me in one way or another. I mail new membership materials, membership reminders, inform members about quarterly meetings and help with our Spring and Fall conferences. That’s the basics though I try and help elsewhere as needed.

If you signed up for our quarterly newsletter, The Broadside, and elect to receive it by electronic means, that’s part of my job—so if you don’t get it, make sure I’ve got your current email. Just drop me a note either by mail or email. I also update the membership roster with current email and address. If you change contact info, it’s me you want to send it to so you can continue getting NWG mailings and publications.

I also volunteer to update this blog–bringing the blog in line with our reorganized and updated website and adding yet another membership advantage. Making sure our members are aware of the aptitude of our membership, the board got the idea to intermix guest posts with NWG business news. With all our authors, screenwriters, publicists, artists, poets etc it’s another outlet to exhibit member expertise and a great way to show the depth of talent our group contains.

Here’s a note: Besides volunteering for the secretary job, I’m also an author and, like most of our other members, hold a job outside of writing and have a family so, if I don’t respond immediately, it’s because I’m juggling about a dozen things. I, like our other officers, keep a long To-Do list but if you don’t hear from me with your first request, after a couple of days I’ll appreciate a second note. Help me help you get the answers you need. If I don’t know the answer, chances are I’ll find someone who does.

I look forward to continuing my service for NWG. Getting to know our membership and learning how our organization works has been a great experience.
