spring conf 2014 002Those of you fortunate enough to be present at Mahoney State Park for our 2014 Spring Conference, got a big bang for your buck. NWG offered four awesome speakers.

Kelly O’Conner shared her expertise on house publishing changes and the rest of the day, she took private pitches for those who signed up.

C. Hope Clark offered an informative class on ways to find funds as writers/screenwriters and ways to increase your writing income and professional avenues.

Harley Jane Kozak met with us after lunch with a comical look into life on her way to her acting and writing career.

Last, Pilar Alessandra shared valuable rewrite tips and techniques for screenplays and novels.

NWG, with the help of our presenters and Marc Longbrake of Omaha Film Festival, offered some terrific door prizes and the networking between and after presentations was very useful.

During the business meeting, we discussed the need for a new Publications Chair. A big thank you to Greg Hall, for doing the NWG publications, but Greg is finding it increasingly difficult to continue as Chair with his schedule. If you are interested in helping the guild with the four Broadsides and one Bulletin per year, or if you know someone who’d be just the fit, please let any member of the NWG board know.

Also coming open in 2015 are the President and Vice-President Board of Directors positions. If you are interested in filling either of these soon-to-be-vacant positions, ask any board member for more information. Our members are our lifeline to a successful Nebraska Writers Guild and your experience may just be the right fit to help out.

A quick thank you goes out to our board members. Putting on a conference of record size is a big job and it couldn’t be done without cooperation between the officers and others who volunteered their time—like Joyce Sasse, who rodeo-ed the pitches until late evening, and Gina Barlean, who made sure all members felt welcome at the door. Thanks also to the staff at Mahoney State Park who worked to accommodate.

As a reminder, please keep NWG informed of changes to your address, email and contact information. With our publications moving to a choice between electronic and standard mail, we want to be sure you are receiving those documents in the format of your choice.

Full report of the minutes from the business meeting will be available in the next Broadside.

The next quarterly Board Meeting, Monday, April 21st, 2014 at Braeda Bread on 33rd and Pioneers, Lincoln, Nebraska at 6:30 pm. Please attend to get the latest on your NWG.
