This year, the Nebraska Writers Guild tries a new format—Electronic WAN through our Write Across Nebraska Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/252326048242214/?fref=ts

Participation is open to anyone during the weekend of July 12-14 using this new online collaboration.

Last year, NWG had a record word count-126,007 through physical writing locations in Bellevue, David City and Hastings with added help from others across the state. We’re shooting for a 5th record year so, click on over to the WAN facebook page, join and post your success beginning July 12-14.

Certificates commemorating you accomplishments are there as well as instant connection to other participants.
Another exciting note: Several participants in the Northeast part of the state are planning a get together and invite others to attend. A Reading Party will be held at 2:30 pm on July 14th at the Uptown Brewery, 801 10th Street, Stanton, Ne. Readers have 3-5 minutes to share new writing from the WAN event.

Please join us and make your words count!

July brings another year of Write Across Nebraska (WAN), an opportunity for writers to join in a statewide creative effort. Last year’s word count was a record 126,007, generated at the Bellevue, David City, and Hastings events, as well as by participants scattered across the state. We’re certainly confident that this can be our fifth record year in a row.

The Guild will be trying a new format for WAN. Borrowing from some of the successful methods of National Novel Writing Month, the 2013 WAN will be a writing weekend with web-based participation via the NWG Yahoo Group, a dedicated Facebook page, and our Guild web site. There will be places for participants to update word counts, chat with other writers from across the state, and involve themselves in special web based educational offerings. You can participate from the comfort of your living room, and never even get out of your jammies.

Here’s what we all need to know about WAN, in the words of Treasurer Victorine Lieske,
“We are doing things a little differently this year. We are going to move more toward an online WAN – like NANOWRIMO – where people can earn a certificate if they meet certain goals – and we all check in online to see how we are doing.”

I’d like to add that if people want to get together, they can, but as far as NWG goes, it’s an online event this year and it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. If you write…put the amount of words in at the end of the weekend, and they count.

Participation is open to anyone during the weekend of July 12-14. By using online collaboration, we hope to reach more writers, and keep the focus on exactly what the name says: Writing across Nebraska!
